Mission

The Simpson Family Fund, founded in 1999, exists to give members of the three branches of family descended from Sol Simpson an opportunity to give philanthropic gifts together as a group. The fund makes donations of meaningful impact to organizations that represent common family values, and where appropriate, to organizations that support the communities in which Green Diamond Resource Company, the company founded by Sol Simpson in 1890, still operates. The Fund serves to pass on our family’s philanthropic values to future generations and seeks to make the process of giving educational and one that draws the family closer together.

Guidelines

The Simpson Family Fund welcomes grant applications from a broad range of charitable organizations.  Recent areas of focus have been:

  • Community health and well-being
  • Youth activities and educational opportunities
  • Forestry careers and wildfire awareness work

When judging proposals, the Simpson Family Fund looks for the following:

  • Fit with core values
  • Audience/message/probable impact of projects
  • The applicant’s ability to conduct and complete the project
  • Feasibility of the project
  • A realistic and reasonable budget
  • Commitment from the other agencies and stakeholders you will partner with
  • Significance to the health and wellbeing of the community
